Taxmo Cookie Policy

Which cookies and browser storage Taxmo uses, what each one is for, which third parties may set cookies, and how to change or withdraw your consent. The policy is written against the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) and the UK GDPR.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They make sites work more efficiently and tell operators how the site is being used.

Session cookies are deleted when you close the browser. Persistent cookies stay on the device for a set period or until you delete them.

What Taxmo actually stores

There is one essential cookie: connect.sid, which maintains your authenticated session so you stay signed in. It is set after signing in by email magic link or Google OAuth and lasts seven days. Essential cookies cannot be switched off without breaking sign-in.

Taxmo also uses browser local storage, which differs from cookies in that it is not sent to the server with every request and stays on your device until you clear browser data. Two keys are stored: taxmo_cookie_consent, which records your consent choice so the banner is not shown again, and theme, which records your light or dark theme preference. Both persist until cleared.

Third parties and analytics

Google Fonts is used to load typefaces, and Google may receive limited data such as your IP address and browser information when fonts load.

Stripe handles payment processing and may set cookies needed for fraud detection and secure payment when you use payment forms. These are essential to completing a transaction.

Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics 4 are used to understand how visitors use the platform, setting cookies that collect anonymised usage data such as page views, session duration and referral sources. PostHog product analytics runs on the same consent. The policy states that Taxmo does not use Facebook Pixel or any social media tracking, and that accepting analytics cookies also enables Google Ads conversion measurement, which records that a visit led to a sign-up. Decline and none of them load at all. You can also opt out using Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Consent, and how to change it

Under PECR, strictly necessary cookies do not need consent, while non-essential cookies do. Taxmo asks for consent before setting non-essential cookies such as the Google Analytics and Tag Manager cookies, in line with PECR Regulation 6 and the UK GDPR.

The Cookie Policy page carries a withdraw consent control. Using it resets your preference and shows the consent banner again so you can make a new choice, and the page displays your current preference.

You can also manage cookies in your browser: view and delete stored cookies, block third-party cookies, block cookies from specific sites or all sites, or clear them when the browser closes. Blocking essential cookies will stop you signing in and the service will not work correctly.

Questions about cookies go to support@taxmo.co.uk, and the Privacy Policy covers personal data handling more broadly.
